EVERYONE LOVES JAPANESE CHEESE TARTS, EVERYONE.
The Japanese style cheese tarts have gained huge popularity over these past few years. Big names such as Pablo and BAKE have also started to make their South-East Asia ventures. Fortunately, BAKE is now available in Singapore!
This particular cheese tart in feature is not from Japan. It actually started in Malaysia in May 2016. Not too long ago, it opened an outlet at Johor Bahru City Square. I managed to taste the original tart (RM7.90; Matcha flavored RM8.90) fresh out of the oven and it definitely didn’t disappoint!
Warm, fluffy, flowy… and not too sweet!
Compared to its local competitor Lavender Bakery, I would say it is totally on a different playing ground. Pretty much like BAKE, it only sells cheese tarts. The tarts are freshly baked in batches, and taste best when they’re fresh out of the oven. But it’s quite a rip off from BAKE, as Tokyo Secret also recommends the 4 ways of eating the cheese tart: room temperature (today), refridgerated, frozen and toasted. My favourite alternate way of eating is actually frozen – because it changes the texture of the cheese and the taste becomes slightly milder. A great alternative to ice cream!
So if you’re swinging by Johor Bahru and the queue’s not too long at Tokyo Secret, try it when it’s straight out of the oven. You won’t regret it!!
(3/5) Not worth a long queue, but definitely worth a try.
